Community policing is a philosophy and strategy that emphasizes the collaboration and partnership between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. The goal of community policing is to create a safer and more secure environment by working together to identify and solve problems that affect the quality of life in a community.

Hello, I’m Jon your Community Policing Instructor.

My academy started with the Wisconsin Police Corps at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy.  I spent 6 months in a paramilitary academy receiving extensive trainings, which at the time was triple the state requirements.  Through my career I have received many trainings, leading up to the completion of Northwestern’s School of Public Safety, Police Staff and Command (Class #518).

I am a veteran law enforcement officer bringing more than 20 years of experience to this course.  I have worked in different areas of my agency, including patrol, investigative services, and community policing/professional standards.  I have been an instructor with DARE and GREAT, I was an SRO (School Resource Officer) in several schools, and have proudly served on the state board of the Wisconsin DARE Officer Association for DARE and the Wisconsin Association of Community Oriented Police as a district director and Vice President.

I am a recipient of the Law Enforcement Purple Heart and am Safariland Save Club #1594.  I come from an extensive community policing training background. I served as the direct supervisor of my agency’s Neighborhood Resource Officer Unit, which at the time was just establishing itself as a well recognized program for the community. There have been many trainings I have attended; each bringing new insight and new ideas on Community Oriented Policing.
