Meeting Joseph Pistone, the real Donnie Brasco
Hello I’m Jon, founder of JPW Consulting Solutions.. I entered law enforcment just after 9/11 when support for law enforcement was at an all time high. This support made carrying the badge easier for a rookie officer. My first assignment was in a low income area of our city. I developed relationships with community members on night shift, which made my job easier as the years went on. Then in one afternoon on a March spring day I was involved in a critical incident. My career turned into a different direction. Looking back, it was for the better.
I was re-assigned to our Community Services Bureau. I learned about many different programs our agency was a part of, which I was not aware of as a beat officer. I became involved in Community Policing events, programs, lectures, and other opportunities which built relationships between the police and the public.
As of today I am a veteran law enforcement officer with more than 20 years of experience. I have worked in different areas of my agency, including patrol, investigative services, and community policing/professional standards. I have been an instructor with DARE and GREAT, I was an SRO (School Resource Officer) in several schools, and have proudly served on the state board of the Wisconsin DARE Officer Association for DARE and the Wisconsin Association of Community Oriented Police as a district director and Vice President.
I am a recipient of the Law Enforcement Purple Heart and am Safariland Save Club #1594. I come from an extensive community policing training background. I served as the direct supervisor of my agency’s Neighborhood Resource Officer Unit, which at the time was just establishing itself as a well recognized program for the community.
I am a graduate of Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command. I have attended other leadership courses, including Leadership in Police Organizations through the International Association of Chiefs of Police. In addition I have completed certification for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
